TAE KWON DO PROGRAM

Cho's Tae Kwon Do History

Cho's Tae Kwon Do has a rich and legendary history. Grandmaster Hee Il Cho founded the first southern California Cho's Tae Kwon Do Center in 1974. As a young martial artist, Grandmaster Cho captured many competition titles, and trained the special forces of Korea. He continued his martial arts journey with passion, authoring eleven books, producing seventy videos and founding one of today's most respected international martial arts organizations (AIMAA)--he has also been inducted into every major martial arts hall of fame.

Grandmaster Hee Il Cho serves as our benchmark for excellence and remains an inspiration to all at Cho's Academy.

Cho's Tae Kwon Do always has been and always will be a no-nonsense school, dedicated to promoting and teaching true martial arts to anyone willing to practice with commitment, sincerity and humility.

Grandmaster Cho's son, Jacob Cho (Cho's Academy's Head Instructor) now follows in his father's footsteps. They both continue to train and teach daily.

Our Unique Curriculum

Most of today's martial art curriculums are an extreme. It is is easy to find either a local MMA gym teaching people to be "killing machines" or a "buy-a-belt" watered-down version of a traditional martial arts school. We are neither.

Cho's Tae Kwon Do classes are conducted in a traditional manner, emphasizing respect, discipline, perseverance, focus and the steady pursuit of perfection. We are here to preserve and pass down an ancient art in its true form. Training is intense and challenging so as to develop a non-quitting spirit that will help you to excel in all areas of life. Everyone starts as a beginner so there is no need to be intimidated. Our classes are for everyone and academy members are not considered customers, rather students, and are treated as such.

We vary our class routines to ensure that all aspects of Tae Kwon Do are practiced. We teach fundamental stances, techniques and forms (hyung). The fundamentals remain the same as they did in ancient times. Additionally, we teach a comprehensive set of self-defense drills and free-sparring (kyorugi)—equally used are punches, kicks, elbows, knees, chokes, etc. Tradition does not equal an absence of growth nor an open mind.

Flexibility, strength, speed, endurance and recovery drills are also an integral part of our curriculum.

Belts are not bought at our school, they are earned through hard work and years of dedication. If you put in the time and energy, you will be given the tools to defend yourself and live a very healthy and fulfilling life.

We offer a balanced curriculum, and promote the regular practice of Yoga in addition to the martial arts; thus the creation of Cho's Academy. We have come to learn that balancing the two complementary arts offers a powerful practice that develops strength, flexibility and harmony of the mind and body. Additionally, our academy offers Muay Thai and Boxing clinics twice per month (the extra practices are not mandatory, but are recommended, and open to academy members).

We are a proud member of the Action International Martial Arts Association (AIMAA), which is an open martial arts organization founded by Grandmaster Hee Il Cho in 1980. We support and participate in AIMAA seminars, tournaments and other sanctioned events. These events provide great opportunities to meet and share experiences with martial artists from all over the world. The experiences are always rewarding, educational and very memorable.
